When I consider this question, a hundred things come to mind at once. I could read, organize, exercise, cook, play with my kids, eat better, sleep…the list goes on and on. As a self-described “over-producer,” I have to remind myself that Jesus doesn’t call me to “do” but to “be.” In other words, he doesn’t call me to produce, he calls me into a relationship. Rather than try and do more, I need to slow down long enough to lean into my relationship with the Lord. In doing so, fruit will be produced in each area of my life organically.
In recognizing that every good and perfect gift is from above1, I’ll become a better steward of my resources.
In understanding my responsibility of discipling my kids2, I’ll become more intentional about the time I spend with them.
In knowing that the God of the universe is my shepherd, protector, and sustainer3, I will sleep better and rest easy.
So if you are like me and are tempted to focus on your output, join me in slowing down and lifting your eyes to Christ, the author and perfector of our faith4. Let’s behold him and, in doing so, become like him5.
