Something that has been on my mind this December is the way in which Christ came to earth. He could have very well appeared one day as a thirty year old man with no family, connections, or earthly history. He didn’t have to enter into our messy and dangerous world as a helpless newborn to young parents who would soon have to flee to Egypt for his protection.
But because of his astounding love for us, he humbled and entrusted himself into the care of Mary and Joseph. In his earthly life he lived through the loss of loved ones, faithful friendship and deep betrayal, temptation and perseverance, weariness and encouragement. In short, he entered into and fully experienced our world of brokenness. What’s more, he does the same thing now.
Rather than leaving us to navigate the world on our own, he enters directly into our suffering. As you move through this season, remember that since your salvation there has never been a moment that you are alone. He is before you, behind you, and next to you, giving you strength, courage, faith, and perseverance. I do not pretend to know the details of your present season or the Lord’s plan for his return, but I do know that one way or another, your waiting will end. And when he does come again, all things will be made new, all sorrow will be washed away, and we will dwell with our Savior and King for eternity.
